Random Oddservations™   The March for Science??????????

[T]he march revealed the glaring dissonance of opposing that trough of ignorance by instead accepting a cringe-worthy hive-mind mentality that celebrates Science as a vague but wonderful entity, what Richard Feynman called “cargo cult science.” There was an uncomfortable dronelike fealty to the concept — an oxymoronic faith that information presented and packaged to us as Science need not be further scrutinized before being smugly celebrated en masse. That is not intellectually rigorous thought — instead, it’s another kind of religion, and it is perhaps as terrifying as the thing it is trying to fight.

  • Judge Orrick violates the most basic canon of legislative interpretation, which is to adopt a narrow reading of a statute if a broader one would raise constitutional issues. But what is implausible is the judge’s overbroad reading of a provision that specifically and particularly limits its applicability only to the attorney general and the secretary of homeland security. • Liberalism at it finest. Both Samantha Bee and Jason Jones are wealthy and do not want the city of New York to move his children’s school to a location that would make it more accessible to poor, black kids.   Slate reports that one of the reasons for this is that in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the most left-wing part of this left-wing state, there is never-ending resistance — if you’ll pardon the use of that word — to opening up predominantly-white schools to under-privileged, minority students.  http://www.dailywire.com/news/15927/samantha-bees-husband-fights-keep-poor-black-kids-john-nolte

The Correct Side of the Story

  • Anticipating Saturday’s March for Science, biologist Douglas Axe notes a key distinction that habitually gets elided. The distinction is between a majority of scientists and “settled science.” Again and again, the two are treated as if they meant the same thing. They don’t. “Science should neither serve special interests nor be rejected based on personal convictions,” they claim. And yet they fail to see that the majority and minority views of climate change are science in the same way. Both sides apply scientific reasoning to the evidence. They just reach different conclusions.  Read more at: https://www.evolutionnews.org/2017/04/doug-axe-to-science-march-organizers-a-scientific-majority-doesnt-equal-settled-science/
